Overview

Ceclor or Cefaclor is an oral antibiotic that is used to treat and prevent bacterial infections. Its wide spectrum of treatment involves treating bacterial infection of ear, skin, urine and respiratory tract infections. The medication is only suitable for bacterial type of infection and not any other viral infections.

Action

 Ceclor is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is used for the treatment of pneumonia, meningitis, septicaemia, peritonitis and biliary tract infections. The medication is an oral antibiotic which is generally prescribed for a specific period of time. The medication, when taken at specific intervals as prescribed, reduces the development of drug-resistant bacteria and prevents further infection as well as treats the already infected area. It basically inhibits the growth of bacteria. It also regularizes the effect of Cefaclor and other antibacterial drugs on the infection. The medicine is effective against both Gram–negative and Gram-positive organisms.

 Dosage

The drug should be administered as prescribed by the doctor.

• Generally the drug is prescribed at an interval of every 8-12 hours.
• It should be taken at prescribed dosage only
• The medication should be taken along with food to avoid stomach upset in some cases
• The medication needs to be administered for the full course of time as prescribed in spite of the symptoms disappearing after few days
• Stopping the medication immediately without consulting the doctor may cause the infection to re appear.
• Dosage may be increased or decreased depending upon the severity of the infection and only on doctor’s advice

Precaution

• Before administering Ceclor, one should inform th doctor for any hypersensitive reaction to the medicine or any of its components
• If any allergic reactions occur, it should be  discontinued and the doctor should be informed
• If symptoms of severe diarrhoea are reported after the administration of medicine, it should be discontinued immediately
• The medication should only be provided after making sure the cause of the infection as bacterial in nature. Administration of the medication without  proven bacterial infection is likely to develop drug resistance bacteria
• Prolonged usage of medicine may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Careful observation and action needs to be taken for the same
• Discuss your medical history with your health care provider if you suffer from  any severe kidney ailment, intestinal disease etc.
• Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant and want to take this medication.
•  Lactating women should consult doctor before administering this medication since it passes into the breast milk
• This medication may interact with other drugs. Discuss with your doctor any medication that you are already taking
• This medicine may cause side effects such as stomach upset, nausea, headache, diarrhoea and vomiting. If any of these get severe, consult your doctor immediately.
